Disk Clean Up: It erases all the unnecessary files of your hard disk, free
up your disk space and increases your computer speed. Simply follow the steps
given below:
- Go to Start Menu and click All Programs.
- Go to Accessories and then click System tools.
- Click Disk Clean Up.
- If your computer has more than one drive or partition, select the drive you want to clean up.
- It might take a little bit more time to open the files that need to be erased.
- Select the files you need to erase. Be sure to select all the files you no longer need. And then click OK.

Disk Defragmenter: Fragmentation slows down your
computer. Defragmenter defragments the system file i.e. removes the
fragmentation in system files. It rearranges fragmented files by organizing the
content of the disk so your computer can perform work efficiently.
- Go to Start Menu and click All Programs.
- Go to Accessories and then click System tools.
- Click Disk Defragmenter.
- First analyze your disks to know whether it requires defragmenting right now or not. If the percentage of fragmentation is more than 10%, then click Defragment Disk.
- It might take few minutes to hours to defragment which depends upon your disk size and fragmentation percentage.

Simply follow these steps:
- Go to Start Menu and click Control Panel.
- Go to System and Security and click Advanced System Settings on the left column.
- You can also hit [windows] + [pause/break] as a keyboard shortcut to open System and Security. If you want more keyboard shortcut, you can visit Important shortcut keys.
- Above system properties box pops up on your computer screen where you first click Advanced tab and then click Settings for performance (Visual effects, processor scheduling, memory usages and virtual memory).
- Performance options box pops up on your computer screen where you select Adjust for best performance and click OK.
Tip No: 4
Computer becomes slow if total no. of processors of computer aren't used. To fix this problem, you could follow following steps:
- Type msconfig which means Microsoft configuration in search box of start menu. Click msconfig.exe when it appears.
- System Configuration box pops up on your computer screen where you select Boot tab and then click Advanced Options.
- Click on the No. of Processors options and select the maximum number of processors. For e.g. if there is options of no. 1 & 2, choose 2 processors. And Click OK.
