Basic SEO Tips for Blogger Beginners

If you are beginner or newbie in blogging, uses blogger as a blogging platform and don’t know anything about HTML, here I am going to provide you some basic but important SEO tips so that your blog ranks higher in search results. SEO which is acronym for Search Engine Optimization, means optimizing your blog for better search results in different search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.

 Why SEO Is Important?

SEO helps you to get free trafficking from search engines. A blog/website without SEO is dead because nobody knows about it. Small modification in your blog could create big impact on it.

If you look other websites for SEO, they instruct you for HTML process like title tag, meta tag, heading tag, attribute, etc.  If you are irritated of all this, I am going to provide simple ways for search engine optimization without any HTML process. You don’t need to have basic HTML knowledge.

• ·         Always provide titles for every post you publish. It is easy to write title in blogger. You can write in Title section at the top of new post page. Write unique title having 1-2 keywords (words used by users for searching on search engines). Your title should be brief but descriptive. Title shouldn’t be more than 70 characters for Google. Your title appears in first line of the results if it appears in search result pages and keywords present in title are bolded.

According to Google, avoid using default titles like “Untitled” or “New Page 1”.

• ·         Always provide post descriptions for every post you publish. It is easy to write post descriptions in blogger.  You can write 2-3 lines of post description in description box at the right sidebar. Post description acts as snippet (text displayed below the title of your post in search results). Keywords present in snippet are bolded in search engine result pages (SEPRs). Post description should be summary of your post.

           According to Google, avoid

1. Using generic descriptions like "This is a web page" or "Page about baseball cards".
2. Filling the description with. only keywords
3. Copying and pasting the entire content of the document into the description box.

• ·         Maintain at least 2-3% keyword density in your blog post. Right place for using keywords is at the beginning of blog post.

• ·         Use simple and easy URL.  By default, your post title URL is title itself separated with hyphen in each word after your homepage URL and date. You can edit the default URL in blogger. So make your URL simple, short and easy one. Keywords in URL make your blog better SEO friendly. Avoid using capitalization in URL.

• ·         Create internal links through better anchor text. Anchor text is a clickable text that has a link. Links may be internal or external and internal links are the assets for better SEO. Your anchor text should provide basic idea of what the page linked to is about.

                According to Google, avoid

1. Writing generic anchor text like “page” or “click here”.
2. Using page URL as the anchor text. 

• ·         Use rel= “no follow” for all external links, comments and message board of your blog. No follow attribute doesn’t pass your page reputation to the pages linked to and in comments and message boards, it prevents from spam.

• ·         Optimize your images by adding captions in every image you add in your blog.

• ·         Increase backlinks (links of your blog in another website) by submitting your blog to website directories like technorati, blogcatalog. You can also exchange links between blogs of similar niche.

• ·         Among all of these, the important one is write unique, qualitative and informative contents. Don’t make your blog dumping site by publishing unwanted, copied and out of date stuffs.
